Boys & Girls Clubs of Porter County & Northwest Indiana Partner for 2nd Annual Olympic Day

bgc-balloon-launchBoys & Girls Clubs of Northwest Indiana and Boys & Girls Clubs of Porter County are uniting for our 2nd Annual Olympic Day at Riverview Park, 2701 Ripley Street in Lake Station, Indiana.

Olympic Day commemorates the birth of the modern day Olympic Games over 100 years ago! Thousands of people around the world come together once a year for competition, celebration, and camaraderie. Olympic Day’s mission is to promote fitness, well-being, culture and education, while promoting the Olympic values: excellence, friendship and respect and the three Olympic Day pillars: move, learn and discover.

Friday, June 19, 350 youth from Boys & Girls Clubs in both Lake and Porter Counties will turn Riverview Park into their own Olympic Stadium, complete with Olympic torches designed at each Club site. Boys and girls will break into specific age groups and compete in long jump, shot put, and relay races. Those not competing will be on hand to cheer teammates and congratulate winners. Good sportsmanship and respect are as important as the games played on Olympic Day.

This year we’ve partnered with the Gary Chamber of Commerce and The Times Media Company on Community Civility Counts initiative which brings awareness to the concepts of mutual respect, politeness, and gratitude. Our aim this Olympic day is to bring kids together from all over Northwest Indiana and spotlight their similarities. We want each child to enjoy their time together and also learn that Civility Counts!
