Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Northwest Indiana Regional Director named a Maytag® Dependable Leader

Rose Joiner, of Gary, Ind., has been named a 2019 Maytag Dependable Leader Award winner for her demonstrated dedication to keeping youth on the path to achieve great futures. The award recognizes Boys & Girls Club staff and volunteers who are committed to making a difference as dependable and exceptional role models.

Through a national partnership, Maytag brand and Boys & Girls Clubs of America selected Joiner to receive this year’s distinction, which includes a $20,000 financial grant for Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Northwest Indiana. The grant will be used for the John Will Anderson Boys & Girls Clubs in Gary to start and staff an All-Girls STEM Program led by Joiner. The program will inspire to close the gap on girls in STEM and inspire female Club members to explore the field in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

“Rose is our organization’s longest-standing employee and for decades has been and continues to be a reliable role model for our Club youth,” said Alison Martin, VP of Philanthropy, Boys & Girls Clubs Greater Northwest Indiana. “Rose embodies what it means to be a dependable leader. She works tirelessly to develop creative programming for our members to discover their true passions and reach their full potential. There is no one more deserving of this recognition than Rose.”

For 35 years, Joiner has made it her life’s mission to provide Club youth with support and a sense of community. Many members of the Boys & Girls Club in Gary are foster care kids who regularly are uprooted from home to home and lack a consistent safe haven to learn and grow. Joiner’s tenacity to tackle problems faced among area youth led her to focus on providing exceptional Club experiences for members at the Gary location. Her determination and resilience did not go unnoticed.

Today Joiner is the Regional Club Director for three Northwest Greater Indiana Club locations – Gary, Hammond and East Chicago.  At each location, Joiner is dedicated to enriching the lives of Club members through engaging programming and mentorship. “The lives of Club members depend on Rose,” continued Martin. “Rose instills the confidence and open-mindedness these kids need.”

“The Maytag Dependable Leader Award allows Maytag brand to give back to Boys & Girls Club staff and volunteers across the country who give tirelessly to their local communities,” said Allison Gillespie, Senior Brand Manager at Maytag. “It is our honor to recognize Rose Joiner for her exceptional efforts and support for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Northwest Indiana.” With a heritage of dependability dating back more than 100 years, the Maytag brand mission is to build high-performing and dependable products.
