Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Northwest Indiana looks to the future with the help of NIPSCO

NIPSCO has been a supporter of Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Northwest Indiana for over a decade, and the company continues to support the club on both a financial and personal level as the Club works to expand its reach.

“NIPSCO has been a partner to Boys & Girls Clubs for as long as any of us can remember,” Boys & Girls Club President and CEO Ryan Smiley said. “Their support has been huge for us, and they continue to be an invaluable partner. They obviously have a huge impact in our communities, and we’re grateful they believe in our mission and support the work we do for kids in Northwest Indiana.”

Part of what makes NIPSCO stand out, however, is the personal involvement of its employees. Whether it be serving on the board or participating in fundraising events, the employees at NIPSCO go above and beyond to help the Club.

“The president of NIPSCO, Michael Hooper, is on our board, and he’s been involved in a lot of our golf outings and events like that. He and his employees support many of our events throughout our communities,” said Stephanie Letic, director of marketing.

Though most people know of NIPSCO, many don’t know about its heavy community involvement. The company strives to make an impact on the lives of the next generation of youth in the community.

“It’s one of those companies that everybody knows, but I’m not sure people know much about them,” said Dylan McKee, Boys & Girls Clubs’ director of communications and grant development. “Most people have a NIPSCO bill, and we wanted to highlight some of the cool things they’ve been doing. It’s important to know that they do a lot of good work in the community. They’ve been a huge staple of our organization.”

The Club hopes to integrate some of NIPSCO’s resources into its STEM programs in the near future. The involvement of people at NIPSCO can be an incredibly useful tool for educating children on the possibilities of a career in a STEM field.

“We're always looking to improve our STEM education efforts and our STEM programming. Obviously, NIPSCO could be a huge partner with that because that is their line of work. Whether it’s through funding STEM labs or doing events like career days and coming in to talk to kids about a career like that, NIPSCO will have a huge involvement,” said McKee.

No matter the situation, NIPSCO has continued to show support of the Club, and hopes to offer continued support through any expansions or upcoming projects.

“At NIPSCO, we are looking to the future – the future of energy and how we will continue to serve our customers and communities for years to come. Boys & Girls Clubs is looking to the future, too, as they help nurture and inspire our local young people to become the best they can be,” Hooper said. “I’m proud to be a board member, and I’m looking forward to growing our partnership.”
