To connect with the community for a day full of food, fun, and special promotions, Purdue Federal Credit Union hosted the Purdue Federal Family Day at its Crown Point location on Saturday, September 23. This event celebrated not only its connections with its members but also its young, ever-growing relationship with the Crown Point community.

“This is not our first Family Fun Day. This is our fourth year here at this branch, so it's really exciting for us to be able to celebrate the four years and the relationships that we built over this time,” said Purdue Federal Credit Union AVP of Retail Tracey Linder. “Looking around and seeing all of these kids and families having fun, it’s great for us to be able to be part of that.”

In preparation for Purdue Federal Family Day, Linder shared that the retail team has been offering extended hours to help people with transitions and setting up new accounts. On the event planning side, Community Relations Specialist Lindsey Kilty revealed that Purdue Federal Credit Union communicated with local partners and vendors to ensure there were plenty of fun activities for people of all ages.

“My background is actually in wedding and event management so putting together events like this for the community and for the credit union is one of my favorite things to do,” Kilty said.

With Purdue Federal Credit Union’s ties to Purdue University and Purdue University Northwest (PNW), Kilty wanted to be sure to incorporate aspects of the universities into the family fun day.

“That’s why we invited Purdue Pete, Leo the Lion, the PNW Hockey Team, and the Lake County Corn Dogs. We’re bringing all sides of who we are together,” Kilty said.

From 1 p.m.-2 p.m., families had a chance to meet and take a picture with Purdue Boilermakers basketball player, Fletcher Loyer.

Accompanying Purdue Pete and all other representatives of Purdue University was the train itself, the Boilermaker Special. As the official mascot of Purdue University and a staple of Purdue University’s football games, the Boilermaker Special will travel anywhere in the United States and is in high demand. Kilty was thrilled that the Boilermaker Special was available to take families on a hayride-style trip around the block at Purdue Federal Family Day.

Beyond its most popular attraction, the Boilermaker Special rides, Purdue Federal Family Day also had Kona Ice, Portillo’s hot dogs, a bounce house, inflatable basketball and axe throwing, Purdue “P” decorating, face painting, spinning wheel prizes, and more.

Lake County Corn Dogs had a booth with mini frisbees, rubber bracelets, and a prize drawing.

Lake County Corn Dogs Head Coach and Manager Justin Huisman revealed that Lake County Corn Dogs also participated in this event last year, and he’s happy to see the turnout this year.

“We were happy to come back out and hopefully meet some new faces and have more people get to know us,” Huisman said. “We love the Crown Point community and try to use our outlet to be a part of it. The town has been great to us so far in the first two years of our existence. We also try to partner with as many of the local businesses as possible, helping each other out. We want to support Purdue Fed, and there's a lot to do here today.”
