On Thursday afternoon, Blue Chip Casino announced an expansion to their Stardust Event Center in Michigan City. The expansion is aimed at increasing capacity for larger events in the future.
The expansion is set to create a 50% increase in space and allow for larger conventions, gatherings, and events at Blue Chip. Currently scheduled to open in the fall of 2019, the expansion adds an additional 14,800 square feet of event space and 3,800 square feet of pre-function space to the event center. The new, 11,000 square foot ballroom will be divisible into six smaller rooms, maximizing its potential for use.
“It’s a significant increase and will aid our ability to attract bigger and better conventions here to Blue Chip,” said Brenda Temple, Vice President and General Manager of Blue Chip Casino.
Opened in 2009, the Stardust Event Center has simply gotten too small for many of the groups that have used it over the years.
“What’s happened here with the Stardust Event Center, some of the groups that we started here, they’ve outgrown us over time,” Temple explained. “Now, we will be able to accommodate them and have bigger, better groups.”
Members of the Indiana Gaming Commission, Mayor Ron Meer, and Boyd Gaming Leadership were in attendance for the announcement. All celebrated the partnership that has flourished between Michigan City and Blue Chip Casino over the years.
“The collaboration and commitment of the Michigan City community and Blue Chip has been great over the last 20 years,” Meer said. “I’m so very proud and committed to this partnership and expansion.”
The room was abuzz with excitement for the announcement as members of Michigan City and Blue Chip highlighted the importance and impact this expansion will have.
“We’re honored to work with you in helping to build a stronger and prosperous Northwest Indiana,” said Bill Wright, Senior Vice President of Operations for Boyd Gaming. “Boyd Gaming is proud to have been a part of this community for more than 20 years. The expansion of this meeting center is our next step in this commitment to Michigan City and Northwest Indiana.”
Blue Chip Casino is consistently working to do more. During the expansion announcement, they also announced that, as of Thursday morning, they had become one of the first casinos to implement the newest Indiana regulations regarding casinos by opening their video poker bar in The Game.
“This change allowed gaming operations to move onto land based facilities,” Temple said. “This morning, we opened our video poker bar. It’s things like this that keep Blue Chip fun, fresh, and fabulous.”
Through reinvestment, dedication, and a desire to stay on the cutting edge, Blue Chip Casino is remaining a positive force in the Michigan City community. By expanding their event center, they will certainly bring more groups, people, and events to Northwest Indiana for all to enjoy.
