Bishop Noll Peanut Butter Drive Helps Food Bank of Northwest Indiana

Bishop-Noll-Peanut-Butter-Drive-Helps-Food-Bank-of-Northwest-IndianaTo help replenish the Food Bank of Northwest Indiana with a staple item, Bishop Noll students engaged in an act of almsgiving this Lenten season. Student Council, partnering with the Advancement Office, ran the traditional Peanut Butter Drive.

This year’s goal was to collect 900 jars of peanut butter. The students eclipsed that by more than double, collecting 1,958 jars.

Congratulations to the winning classrooms that collected the most jars. They were Karl Repay’s class with 531 jars, Sara Davis’ class with 420 jars and Lydia Skurka’s class with 254 jars.

For the past eight years, alum Bob Homrich, class of 1967, has challenged Bishop Noll students to collect peanut butter to donate to the Food Bank of Northwest Indiana. Homrich actively helps at food banks in his local community of San Antonio, Texas, and donates to BNI's Annual Fund as a thank you for its collection efforts.

Peanut butter, a staple that food banks run out of most often, is popular because children like it, it has a long shelf life, it is filling, and is a good source of protein for families that cannot afford meat. Helping replenish the food bank helps students remember others in need.
