BGHS Student Council Welcomes New Students, Raises Money for ALS

Eden Priest is ValpoLife.com's #1StudentNWI representative at Boone Grove High School. Every month, Eden will share good news at her school. This month, she provides an update on the school's Student Council, and what the have been doing to make high school a welcome experience.

We haven't been in school long, but the Student Council at Boone Grove High School is already sponsoring events!

On September 4, the group held a New Student Breakfast. During this event one or two people from every club, sport, or extra curricular activity spoke about when their club or sport started and what happens. While they were speaking, the new students enjoyed donuts and juice. The new students felt very welcome at Boone Grove, knowing the Student Council cares about them. The organization's members also sat at the tables where there were new students. It was a really interactive and wonderful time for everyone that was there.

You've seen the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge, right? Maybe you've done it or you've seen it from others on social media. Now, the Student Council here is sponsoring a Teacher's ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis) Ice Bucket challenge. At every lunch in our commons area, we have a table set up with bags that have teacher's names who have volunteered for the challenge. They encourage students to bring in money and put it in their favorite teacher's bag. The three teachers who have the most money in their bag gets ice dumped on them.

The Student Council is always ready to help the school and the community! At our home football game on September 12, selected members of the BGHS Student Council went around the bleachers and collected more money for the Ice Bucket Challenge. Three teachers were on the track during halftime and the teacher that had the most money in their bucket, got ice dumped on them and got crowned "Ice King." Mr. James Rosinia won and the student council in turn won more than $300! It was a great success! They have so much more this school year and it's going to be great!
