Easter may be a week away, but Belvedere Senior Housing made an early dive into the holiday festivities with their Annual Easter Egg-Stravaganza.
Belvedere, one of the newer senior living communities in the Region, strives to host a huge schedule of events for their residents. Every few months they put together something big, such as Saturday’s Egg-Stravaganza. Residents, family, and friends enjoyed a pancake breakfast, a visit from the Easter Bunny, and a three-floor egg hunt.
“We like to host events like this because it brings a sense of community to our residents,” said Jennifer Kasch, Director of Marketing at Belvedere. “They’ve been really excited for this one. They’ve helped me stuff thousands of eggs and create decorations for the past week and a half. It’s their home, but it really invokes a sense of community when they’re able to be a part of the team. It’s a family environment here.”
Egg-Stravaganza offered fun for all-ages. As many as three generations of kids came out to visit and catch up over pancakes. Katheryn Lukich, who moved into Belvedere about five months ago, was excited to celebrate the holiday with her great-granddaughters.
“It’s very important to me that they host events like this,” Lukich said. “Being that I’m 92, I love to participate in whatever these children do. I’m just very excited!”
In addition to helping organize the event, some residents volunteered to answer questions and keep things running smoothly. Others helped visitors and fellow residents register for raffle games. Marsha Haussman, a Belvedere Resident for over a year and a half, helps at every event she can.
“I love this place. It’s a great place to live,” Haussman said. “This is my apartment, this is my home, and I love being here. It’s the kind of place that you want to see keep growing and going on and on.”
Haussman and Lukich looked on as kids explored the halls and searched every corner for candy-filled Easter eggs. Kids lucky enough to uncover a golden egg earned a large gift basket filled with candy, toys, and other prizes. According to Belvedere Nursing Director Sharon Boedeker, these events are a core part of what defines the community.
“Our residents get really invested in these events, you should see how they shake it out there when we’ve got the music going,” she said. “This is their home, so why not have a little fun every once in a while? We all need a little fun every once in a while.”
