Back to School 2014: PTSC Weekly Update

PTSC-Standouts-August-2014PTSC Standouts: Check out 8th grade flute player, Katie Brei! She was selected to perform with hundreds of other middle school band students from throughout Indiana! This band is called "INpact Indiana's Future Band" and performs before thousands of people at Lucas Oil Stadium before the Drum Corps International World Championships. The band was directed by Dr. Jeff Doebler of Valparaiso University. They also performed at the Pam Am Plaza. Great job, Katie!

Also, thanks to Mr. Baum for supporting Katie and encouraging band members to apply for INpact!

Back to School 2014 I'm sure many of you are like me who cannot believe it is already time for students to return to school on Wednesday, August 20, 2014! It's an exciting time and the staff at PTSC is eagerly anticipating the start of the 2014-2015 school year. As a reminder, there is a delayed start on every Wednesday. That means that our first day of school will start 30 minutes later than our regular start time.

Here are some things we've been working on this summer while you were gone:

Updated Culinary Arts facilities for our classes. We have completed redone a classroom to create a commercial kitchen environment for the students in this program. Sealed parking lots--although this doesn't sound exciting, this work we completed after our terrible winter will allow us to maximize the life expectancies of the lots. BGHS, BGMS, and PLE media center updates: we installed new computers in the media centers at BGHS and BGMS. PLE received a new interactive board which was installed in the media center. Classroom renovations at BGMS: several classes were relocated and some rooms were renovated to create improved learning environments. BGE gym floor: a new gym floor was installed at BGE after water damage occurred from a failed pump. Office renovation: BGMS now features new carpet and paint as well as a revised work flow. Restroom addition at BGHS: BGHS was in need of a restroom renovation for students with special needs. All buildings: deep cleaning by our amazing maintenance team. When you see a member of our facilities/maintenance/custodial team--make sure to thank them! All buildings: cafeteria upgrades--you will have to come and see the cafeterias--they look great! School Safety Procedures: the PTSC Emergency Response Team worked hard all summer to update school safety protocol, plan training, provide new resources in buildings, and trained all PTSC staff on the procedures.

These are just a handful of the things that have happened this summer. The principals have also worked hard interviewing and securing the highest quality teachers for positions which were open. We have a great team of new teachers that have joined the PTSC family!
