The Art Barn School of Art is launching its fall educational programing, with the 5th annual Art Blitz celebration of the arts on its 69 pastoral acres on September 18 and 19.
This year marks the 100th anniversary of the birth of Art Barn’s founder, Janet Sullivan; as well as the 50th anniversary of the founding of the Art Barn School. A full array of art education programs is offered for adults and children. Included are programs in drawing, watercolor, oil, pastel, photography, ceramics and more. Art Barn’s on-going growth strategy has resulted in the expansion of art offerings and a corresponding increase in the number of students.
Art Barn continues to successfully manage Covid-related issues. During the shutdown last year, Art Barn completed facility improvements including a new roof and other upgrades to its landmark barn. Remote art instruction was seamlessly integrated into programming and virtual classes continue to be a part of Art Barn offerings. Art Barn’s outdoor areas and spacious barn enable social distancing for students and visitors. With in-person classes in session, Art Barn adheres to scrupulous health and safety standards.
This fall’s educational offerings continue Art Barn’s long history while demonstrating the success of its growth strategy. Although some classes are already at capacity, a number of spots remain available. Special this fall is the Birds in Watercolor with guest artist Peggy Macnamara, and the resumption of the noteworthy figure drawing class for adults in October. Art Barn’s valued connection with the Indiana Dunes National Park and Friends of the Indiana Dunes continues with “Art in the Park” featuring the theme “In the Woods” with instructor Lee Bauman on September 11.
