Indiana University Northwest played host to their 14th Annual Science Olympiad, allowing area schools to have a full day of fun with science and get a chance to advance to the State competitions in Bloomington and Lafayette.
The Olympiad featured competitions ranging from food science to wind power and air trajectory, with trial competitions that allowed for a stress and competition-free environment for interested students to get involved and have fun.

However, for many schools the Olympiad provided a chance to see how they stacked up against others across Indiana.
Area Middle School teams from Thomas Jefferson Middle School (Valpo), Thea Bowman (Gary), and Chesterton, as well as Region High School Teams from Lake Central, Portage, Marquette Catholic, Bowman, Michigan City, Crown Point, Merrillville, and Valparaiso all vied for a chance to move onto State.
Thomas Jefferson placed first in the State Division, while Chesterton placed third. Both teams, as well as a second Chesterton team and Lake Central in the second, or “C Division”, advanced to State in Bloomington.
