Public invited to watch games
The Fraternal Order of the Police’s Lake County Chris Anton Lodge #125 will host the 2013 State FOP Softball Tournament. The tournament will bring six teams to Legacy Fields at the Crown Point Sportsplex Friday, Aug. 16 and Saturday, Aug. 17.
The teams will be playing for first, second and third prizes, however the event primarily looks to develop and maintain camaraderie among participants while supporting charities.
According to Tony Ramirez, Northwest District Trustee of the Indiana State FOP, the organization hosts events like the softball tournament in order to raise money for numerous charitable organizations and efforts.
“When we do these events, we put it back into the community. We want to be there for other organizations,” said Ramirez. Groups and organizations that have received support from the FOP include youth league teams, senior league teams and the Special Olympics. The FOP also prepares holiday food baskets for the underprivileged.
The public is invited to watch the softball tournament and games are free to attend. Pool play games will begin at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 16, and the tournament will begin at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 17. The final game may be played on Sunday, Aug. 18 if necessary.
The Crown Point sports complex is located at 1313 E North Street, Crown Point, IN 46307.
