Andrean Finishes Second at 2018 State Decathlon Competition

Andrean-Finishes-Second-at-2018-State-Decathlon-CompetitionAndrean High School finished second at the Indiana State Decathlon competition in West Lafayette, Ind. The state competition took place Feb. 9th and 10th at Purdue University.

Eight students finished with top honors. Kathryn Strimbu led the way with six medals. Josh Grady earned five. Beth Azcona and Caden Hicks finished with four, while Madison Grcevich (two), Elizabeth Cooley (one), Adan Diaz (one), and Anniya Delaney (one) all placed in several categories.

Academic Decathlon competitions test students’ knowledge on a single theme as it pertains to 10 academic subjects. The theme for this year’s competition was Africa. Competition subjects range from economics to literature.

“I'm tremendously proud of everything that Andrean's Academic Decathlon team has accomplished this year,” Strimbu said. “Our recent success at the state competition represents about nine months of studying and preparation, and even though we didn't win state, I think our hard work was reflected in the competition's results.”

Reitz Memorial High School took home the top honors, followed by Andrean High School and La Lumiere Academic Decathlon, located in LaPorte.
