Andrean Community Breaks Records for Scholarship Fund

Torrential rain and heavy thunder couldn’t stop Andrean from hosting its 19th Annual 59er Golf Classic on July 13th. Golfers began the day with a buffet and the camaraderie of friends and former classmates. Clouds finally dissipated into blue skies and sunshine for the outing to begin on time. Longtime friend of Andrean and hospitality sponsor Bob Welsh greeted golfers by highlighting the importance of coming together as the Andrean family to raise funds for future generations of students.

A record number of golfers, 173, came to this year’s event to give back to the school that provided them with a Catholic education and lifelong friendships. Thanks to the support of our donors and sponsors this year’s outing raised $82,000 (33% more than last year’s event, and the 3rd record breaking year in a row) and marks the most amount of money ever raised at the annual outing.

The day concluded with speakers talking about the prominence of their Andrean education. Andrean alumni Dave Owens then challenged the banquet room to match his $5,000 donation to Andrean. An infectious positivity took the room over as alumni, coaches, teachers, and many more generously raised an astounding $23,000 in a matter of minutes. The funds raised in the room will go directly into a newly created and soon to be named scholarship endowment fund leaving the remaining $59,000 for Andrean’s General Scholarship fund.

Summing the experience up Dave Owens said, “The golf outing really highlights the best of Andrean, everyone participated including students, parents, alumni, teachers and just friends of Andrean. The scholarship fund that was set up is a terrific example of the unwavering support that everyone feels for that school and what it has done for them. Bishop Hying should be commended for also joining our family and making a donation to this scholarship fund.”

Andrean High School would like to thank all of the donors, golfers, alumni, sponsors, and friends of Andrean for their support. Development Director Wende Burbridge said, “Without their charitable contributions, the Andrean mission couldn’t continue. Their generosity, fellowship, and love of Andrean serve as an inspiration as we guide Andrean forward.”

Thank you to all our sponsors and donors.
