An Alternative Way to Get Fit in NWI

CrossFit-Valpo-2014-01Chris Shimley and Rob Wahlman are the full time coaches at the Top Fuel CrossFit in Valparaiso and Merrillville. They offer a different way to get in shape other than going to a traditional gym.

The CrossFit program consists of constantly varied, high function movements performed at intense levels to maximize effectiveness. Even though everyone in the class does the same workout, it is modified to fit the individual at his or her fitness level.

Chris and Rob pursued CrossFit because of a strong passion they have for the training. They may have started at different times for different reasons, but they continue to do it for one reason. They want to help the community get in better shape to help improve the lives of those in the community.

"Say, there's a mom who carries home that twenty pound bag of groceries. With our help, that bag won't feel quite so heavy," Shimley said.

"It's about helping people reach a better way of living in their daily lives," Wahlman added.

Chris and Rob also mentioned that with his addictive, high intensity work out, the individual would notice his or her progress. Not only does CrossFit offer a great workout, they have a warm community atmosphere to go with it.

"A lot of people meet their best friends in the program. People are always cheering each other on during the classes," Shimley said.

On a regular day, classes start at 6 a.m. and continue throughout the day starting every hour on the hour. In the middle of the day, classes take a brief break, but they start back up again at 4 p.m. and continue until 10 p.m.

"I think we sell a really good product," Wahlman said. "In addition the quality physical training you would receive here, you also get that confidence that everyone wants. It really is a lifestyle that you carry with you when you walk out of here."
