Abbiocco Italian Cuisine & Luna Kitchen + Cocktails provide two perfect, unique atmospheres inside one building

Abbiocco Italian Cuisine and Luna Kitchen + Cocktails can be found off of IN-49 at 600 Gateway Boulevard. The unique restaurant and bar are held under one roof. Well, that is if Luna being on the rooftop counts. These two restaurants allow for two different dining experiences in one.

“Whether you’re coming from the beach, or you are coming for an anniversary, we have you covered either way,” Proprietor Augie Femminella said.

Abbiocco Italian Cuisine is the restaurant on the main floor. They serve lunch and dinner every day and serve brunch on Saturdays and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

These meals boast broad menus and include specials that change for a new dining experience every visit, and the large portion sizes allow for an easy meal of leftovers the next day.

“The pasta and risotto were both incredible,” said George Tracy, Chesterton High School graduate and student at Columbia College Chicago. “Every time I’ve been to the restaurant the servers are always extremely attentive.”

The bar has specials Monday through Thursday and features discounts such as ½ off bottles of wine on Wednesdays and $7 martinis on Thursdays.

If delicious food and wine are not enough, you will also find yourself basking in Abbiocco’s pleasant atmosphere as enjoy your meal or drink. While the restaurant is large, it is made for parties to be able to have conversations. At Abbiocco, gone are the days of trying to yell over music or other tables to hear yourself speak.

The downstairs restaurant has a modern feel with sharp lines and dark colors, and the lighting creates a calm ambiance with a golden glow.

The rooftops' ambiance creates a relaxing atmosphere with its primarily white colors and blue stools and metal chairs for seating. There is a small overhang, but the majority of the rooftop is open-air, allowing for a cool breeze to waft through.

When it is a little too cool for outdoor seating, Luna has a solution. During the winter months, the overhang moves across to enclose the entire bar, allowing for it to be heated. This gives patrons the ability to eat outside during winter months.

Luna has its own drink and food specials, which are separate from Abbiocco’s menu. The permanent menu has sandwiches, tacos, salads, and pizzas—which can be made with a gluten-free crust for all to enjoy.

Luna is considered a bar, so diners must be 21+ to enter, but Abbiocco is the perfect place to go for those who are 20 and younger.

For certain holidays, Abbiocco Italian Cuisine and Luna prepare a special menu. This past June, they had a Father’s Day Brunch with specials including coffee-stuffed French toast and short rib hash.

Luna also serves as a venue for events.

“Right now, we are doing a lot of live music,” said Femminella. “We do live music on Wednesdays and either Friday or Saturday, sometimes both. Then in September, we are having our two-year anniversary dinner.”

Upcoming rooftop performances include musicians such as Nickel Dime on August 4 and August 18, 2021, from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

Abbiocco and Luna’s two-year anniversary dinner is an overdue celebration. Their one-year anniversary was not celebrated last year due to concerns of COVID-19. Abbiocco & Luna’s staff are excited to finally commemorate this milestone that the whole staff has worked hard for. The festivity will be a wine dinner and is a ticketed event for anyone to attend.

“We plan to do other events but planning without knowing how this summer was going to be is difficult,” said Femminella. “We plan to have our Christmas pop-up in December and will probably do an Oktoberfest type event in September upstairs at Luna.”

With the state’s lifted pandemic restrictions, Abbiocco and Luna are ready to host events. These include fundraisers, mixers, and simple family get-togethers.

Abbiocco and Luna are ready to serve a delicious meal whether it be brunch, lunch, or dinner. Their events are well-organized and entertaining and simply attending for live music feels wonderful knowing that the artists are from the Region.
