"The Page family has yearbook in our blood," this week's Northwest Indiana Life in the Spotlight, Phil Page, said.
Phil Page of Valparaiso, Indiana is a Jostens Territory Manager for 85 schools in the Northwest corner of Indiana. Working with elementary level schools all the way to college level schools, Page helps them to create and print their yearbooks. He also trains students in technology, journalism, marketing and production of the yearbook.
"I especially enjoy seeing students learn and help keep the journalism and yearbook tradition alive in their schools! I love seeing them embrace journalism as I did," Page said.
Page grew up in Detroit, Michigan but graduated from Carmel High School. While in high school, Page joined yearbook and by his senior year he was the photo editor for the yearbook.
"I got the [journalism] bug in high school my sophomore year," Page said.
Page pursued a business degree from the Krannert School of Management at Purdue University. He didn't have the intent of working in the journalism field, yet it still managed to sneak its way into his life. He became an editor of the Purdue yearbook his senior year where he met his wife, Lori.
"I met my wife on the Purdue yearbook staff and my older brother is a Jostens Representative in Michigan and he met his wife on his yearbook staff, so yearbook is a part of our family," Page said with a laugh.
While on staff at Purdue, Page’s Jostens representative told him about the opening for territory manager, and after and interview Page got the job! He has been with Jostens now for a total of 21 years.
Raising five children -Andrew, Allison, Sarah, Eric and Molly, with one on the way in September- one could say Page leads a very busy life. But he still manages to find time for his hobbies including, photography and running.
"I started running a little over two years ago and have run a number of races including two half marathons. Ms. Saoud was my inspiration for running half marathons,” Page added.
Phil Page is a Northwest Indiana Life in the Spotlight for his energy towards students pursuing the journalism field.
