A Northwest Indiana Life In The Spotlight: Jennifer Florek

jennifer-florek-litsJennifer Florek, the Communication Specialist at Bishop Noll Institute, has always been a Northwest Indiana native. She attended Munster High School, and then continued her education at Purdue University-West Lafayette where she obtained a bachelor’s degree in English Literature, with a background in media and publishing, as well.

Throughout her high school years, Jennifer was active in putting together the school yearbook, and in college she was on the newspaper staff. After Jennifer graduated college, she worked a few jobs outside of her field, then she worked with The Times Newspaper for a couple of years, and now she has been working at Bishop Noll Institute since February of this year.

As the Communication Specialist, Jennifer’s job is to disseminate the majority of external communications of the school, including marketing, admissions, and general news and information.

“We have a magazine that comes out twice a year that has a lot of alumni news. We just finished the fall edition, and now I am starting to work on the spring 2017 edition,” stated Jennifer.

She also manages the social media websites for the alumni, which is another means of keeping everyone connected.

“I manage the Alumni Facebook and Twitter pages, and we are currently trying to get started with an Instagram page to use, as well."

On the main Bishop Noll Institute website, Jennifer also keeps the content fresh and up-to-date by posting stories and calendar items for all to see.

“I put news out into the community to keep in touch with the alumni, current students, and to make it look and sound inviting for students that are interested in attending Bishop Noll,” said Jennifer.

Even though Jennifer does not teach students, she still enjoys being in the school environment on a day-to-day basis.

“It is nice to be in a school environment because I have always liked school. Everyone who works here is very passionate about the institute, and a lot of them are alumni of the institute, so it is pretty neat to see their enthusiasm. It is a very upbeat environment to work in, and I like the idea of putting out good news, because people like seeing that.”

Even though Jennifer is relatively new in her position, she really enjoys what she does at Bishop Noll Institute.

“It is a really great and positive environment for the students who go here, and for the people who work here. It is fun and interesting to share the student and alumni news through stories and magazines because they are a very connected group of people,” said Jennifer.

Outside of work, Jennifer spends most of her free time with her two young children.

“When I am not working, I spend the rest of my time with my two kids. We like going to a lot of the popular kids spots around Northwest Indiana, such as Bellaboos, the mall, and local parks.”
