This Groundhog Day, Sunday, February 2, 2025, Humane Indiana Wildlife invites you to the Inaugural Groundhog Day Shadow Showdown, a morning of fun, food, and fundraising at the South Shore Convention and Visitors Authority, located at 7770 Corinne Dr, Hammond, IN. The event runs from 8 AM to 12 PM and features a new tradition that highlights conservation, education, and a dash of friendly rivalry.
Move over, Phil! Humane Indiana’s yet-to-be-named female groundhog ambassador is here to take a stand for wildlife. As a non-releasable wildlife ambassador, she’s ready to predict the Midwest’s 2025 winter forecast at 8 am CST on Groundhog Day 2025. This playful twist serves as a reminder of Humane Indiana’s mission: to preserve and protect wildlife and educate the community about their vital role in the ecosystem.
Want to help name our groundhog ambassador? Submit your ideas through the naming contest on Humane Indiana Wildlife’s Facebook page. The winning name will be announced during the event, adding even more excitement to the celebration.
“This inaugural event isn’t just about a shadow—it’s about shining a light on the importance of every animal and the critical work of wildlife conservation,” said Nicole Harmon, Wildlife Rehab Director at Humane Indiana. “Our groundhog ambassador is here to inspire, educate, and generate awareness for the wildlife in our care.”
The event aims to lay the foundation for an annual tradition, where Humane Indiana’s groundhog will champion the message of preservation and protection while fostering community involvement and education.
