A Levin Tire & Service Center Employee Spotlight: Michael Quinn

A Levin Tire & Service Center Employee Spotlight: Michael Quinn

One of the most important jobs at Levin Tire & Service Center is the service writer. While the mechanics work in the garage, service writers like recent hire Michael Quinn serve as the middle-man between the mechanics and the customer.

“We’re kind of the face of the shop for people who come in,” Quinn said. “Customers will tell me ‘my car has a problem with this and that,’ and I’m the person who takes their requests, details it with notes, and takes that info over to the mechanic, who’ll tell me what they need to do to fix the vehicle. I bring that information to the customer and help them decide if they want to go ahead with the work.”

It’s a job that’s all about people skills, which is something Quinn has gotten quite good at over his years in customer service. He has worked in the auto industry before, and spent time at a dealership where he watched service writers work.

“When you’re surrounded in that environment you start to pick up the P’s and Q’s of the whole business,” he said. “It took a while for me to see the potential of the role, but watching them work with customers and everything else really appealed to me.”

When the restrictions surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic started loosening, Quinn started looking for open service writer positions around the Region.

“I saw that Levin was hiring, put in an application, and a couple of hours later I got a call for an interview,” he said. “It was a godsend. I’ve been here for over a month and they showed me the ropes at every location. Now, I’ve landed at the Highland location and I absolutely love it. It’s fast paced and I really enjoy that environment.”

Quinn said that learning is his favorite part of the new job, and that Levin Tire & Service Center is providing the perfect place for that.

“I’ve always wanted a job that never gets old, where you’re learning new things every day,” he said. “That’s what it’s like here. It’s a fun environment and that goes all the way up to the top. I’ve had a lot of jobs and Jeff Russell, the General Manager, has taken the time to bring me under his wing. He’ll call and check on how everything’s going, and is generally interested in my feedback.”

Quinn’s enthusiasm for the work is amplified by his longtime love for cars.

“I’ve been working on cars since I was just out of high school,” he said. “I’ve always had a passion for pretty much anything related to the automotive industry. My brother and I are working on reconditioning a ’66 Mustang, and that’s a nice little bonding project.”

He is just getting started at Levin, but can already envision a long career.

“This job is basically the perfect fit,” Quinn said. “It combines my passion for customer service and my passion for cars.”
