For those in need of rehabilitative services, finding the right provider can be difficult. With so many facilities and care options available, it’s hard to determine what the right move may be for you or a loved one.
For Julie Port, choosing Dyer Nursing and Rehabilitation Center was a great move, and one that has resulted in remarkable improvement. Therapy and care were not only consistent, but encouraging. Through the consistent and encouraging rehabilitation process, she saw her mobility and independence improve enough that she now resides in Sheffield Manor, an assisted living facility connected with Dyer Nursing and Rehabilitation.
“The care must have been good if I did better. I had occupational therapy and physical therapy, and both of them were good," said Port. "Here, they’re working on me being able to use a walker. I’m currently in a wheelchair, but I’m now able to walk a little ways with a walker, so that’s exciting."
The facility offered some wonderful services to Port, who claims her recovery wouldn’t have moved along so well without their encouragement and support. Through consistent therapy sessions, she was able to regain control and independence that had previously been lost.
“They were nice. Initially, during meals, it was a one-on-one because my hands tremor and I couldn’t get the silverware to the mouth without whatever falling off of it, and I’m now able to feed myself,” said Port.
Port was adamant about the level of care and personalized encouragement she received. As each milestone was met, Port received constant encouragement and excitement, giving her inspiration to continue.
“I had occupational therapy which worked on using my hands, so that they would have a little more control,” explained Port. “Eventually I would feed myself and a lot of the people that worked with me initially would see me feeding myself, they’d be excited.”
Her belief is that the consistency and quality of services aided in her improvement. Each day, she was encouraged to do her therapies and work toward a goal, something she credits to her continual improvement.
“When I was at Dyer, I had therapy every day, and so it was encouraging for you to be working at getting better,” said Port.
The improvement didn’t end with feeding herself and controlling tremors, though. Port also received therapies to aid in her ability to walk. Being wheelchair bound for some time, Port was excited to share that she is now able to use a walker and has improved her mobility.
“Even at home I was in a chair but managed by myself. I’m excited to be able to entertain the thought of actually using the walker,” said Port.
Through successful and consistent therapies, Port has been able to greatly improve her quality of life and mobility. Dyer Nursing and Rehabilitation provided her not only the quality of care needed to improve, but the encouragement to move forward even when things were difficult.
