Hospice of the Calumet Area cherishes life at a time when others may feel overwhelmed. This is especially true for those seeking care at our William J. Riley Memorial Residence.
Our strength has always been helping our patients and families recognize just how precious each day is and treating them with the utmost respect and dignity.
In the past 25 years, more than 5,900 patients have received this special brand of care at our William J. Riley Memorial Residence. This eight-suite facility provides 24-hour care by HCA’s family of nurses, social workers, aides, spiritual counselors and volunteers in a home-like setting.
Last year, HCA began a capital campaign intended to raise $1 million necessary for updates to our more than 25-year-old home.
“Just like any home, our facility has operated with the original roof, windows, furnaces and air conditioners and were in dire need of updates,” said Adrianne May, HCA CEO. “We want the William J. Riley Memorial Residence to continue as a sanctuary for those in need of our unique brand of care. We need a solid foundation to ensure it remains the premier inpatient hospice setting for future generations.”
To date, our Honoring Our Legacy: William J. Riley Memorial Home Capital Campaign has raised more than $1.3 million, thanks to $250,000 matching grants provided by an anonymous donor and a generous donation from the George and Harriet Korellis Roofing Donor Fund.
Immediate improvements such as a new paved driveway, windows, bathrooms, are currently
under way, with plans for a new roof, new HVAC systems, Veterans Memorial, meditation gardens and a Labyrinth to take place in 2024.
“The generosity of our supporters is profoundly humbling,” said Joan McInerney, HCA development director. “The William J. Riley is a very special place and has impacted so many patients and families. It’s really an inspiring place of compassion, comfort and dignity.”
