40th Year of Chesterton High School Broadcasting Resumes Monday, August 29th

Chesterton-High-SchoolChesterton High School’s radio station, WDSO-FM 88.3, is reaching a milestone this year. This marks the 40th year of broadcasting for the station. WDSO will be resuming its regular programming on Monday, August 29 at 6 a.m. after broadcasting continuous music in June and August during summer break for the Duneland Schools. WDSO serves the Duneland School Corporation, the entire Duneland community, and also streams on the internet at www.duneland.k12.in.us/wdso. The station will be broadcasting 24 hours a day, 7 days a week as it did during the last school year. Regular programming will air Mondays through Fridays from 6 a.m. to around 4 p.m. daily with music throughout the overnight hours and on Saturdays and Sundays.

WDSO plays a variety of music mixing all types of music during each music hour. Afterschool music shows highlight a particular type of music that is the choice of the on-air DJ. Request lines are open at that time so you can call in and have your favorite song played on-the-air. No requests are taken between 6 a.m. and 3 p.m.

WDSO will continue its daily programming with shows like the CHS News & Events; Community Bulletin Board, Daily Almanac taken from “Echoes of the Past” from the Chesterton Tribune, Profile America from the U.S. Census Bureau, Bird Note, Insight Daily Radio, On The Money Minute and Sound Beat. Weekly programs include the CHS Weekly Report, Porter County Perspective and the Indiana State Police Road Show.

Special community programming returning this year includes Historically Speaking, hosted by Serena Sutliff, curator at the Westchester Township History Museum; Pet Talk, hosted by Dr. Jenny Herbert, veterinarian and owner of Arbor View Animal Hospital along with her staff; Artful Conversations with Host Chris Acton, publicist for the Chesterton Art Center and Naturally Speaking, hosted by interpreters/naturalists from the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore.

WDSO sportscasters will bring you home games during the regular season for CHS varsity football in the fall, boys’ and girls’ basketball during the winter months and softball and baseball in the spring. Some away games and post-season games will be broadcast as well.

Student management this year includes: Assistant Program Director–Miles Jablonski (11); News Director–Sami Bunning (10); Music Director–Lyric Hugunin (11); Assistant Music Director–Donovan Lawnicki; Sports Director -Simon Williger (11); PSA Director-Andrew Stolz (11) and Promotions Director–Eli Ontiveros (11).

Matt Waters is the station manager/faculty advisor and Michele Stipanovich is the operations manager.
