2016 Summer Reading for All Ages Happening Now at Hammond Public Library

Hammond-Public-LibraryThe Hammond Public Library's Summer Reading Program runs during June and July, with programs for all ages. "On Your Mark, Get Set… READ" is the youth program, where participants complete a bingo sheet of activities for the chance to receive a reading medal or other prizes.

The teen program for grades 7 through 12 is "Get In the Game: READ" with a grand prize of an Amazon gift card, and three mini drawings throughout the summer for $10 Target gift cards. The adult program, "Exercise Your Mind: READ!" is for age 18 and above. The adult program offers three mini drawings throughout the program, and a grand prize drawing at the end of July.

The library also offers special programming throughout June and July. Youth Services features four different age-appropriate storytimes, plus Kids Summer Fun, Lego Club and Science Club, Summer Movies and Reader's Theater. Youth will learn about different areas of the United States, and about the upcoming Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. Teens may attend Teen Book Club, a Teen Movie, Reader's Theater, or programs such as the June 29th Teen Ice Cream Shakes program. Adults may take advantage of three book discussions, HPL Garden Club, Stitching in the Stacks knitting and crochet, Coloring for Adults, Welcome to the World of Music, or ACME Pawn Pushers chess club.

The White Ripple Community Band celebrates the Summer Reading season with a free concert at the library on Mon., June 27 at 7 p.m.
