2015 Rummage Sale Benefits Lakeshore PAWS

Lakeshore-Paws-rummage-sale-2015Lakeshore PAWS is able to function as an animal rescue because of the many fundraisers and donations they receive, including a rummage sale on April 4 hosted by the Duneland Boys and Girls Club.

The Leading, Educating, Across Domains program took on the rummage sale as a project to help benefit the community in some way. Certain Boys and Girls Clubs are selected to be a part of the LEAD program that seeks needs within their community and helps development and leadership among the group.

Tabitha Eggers, the program director for the Duneland Boys and Girls Club, said the kids discussed what they wanted to do and who they wanted to support. Animals seemed to be the unanimous interest among them.

“It’s about planning and then taking action,” Eggers said. “We know that Lakeshore PAWS is doing a lot of good for the community, and that is why we decided we wanted to support and donate to them.”

Lakeshore PAWS volunteer Amy Mores said that it has been great to participate in events where organizations help other organizations. Mores said she started volunteering in January and the rummage sale was one of the main events she has worked so far this year.

Mores was one of several volunteers working the Lakeshore PAWS booth throughout the day, while community members paid $10 to set up a booth to help support the animal rescue. While raising awareness, an adoptable 9-year-old labrador retriever named Skeeter was showcased. Food and toy donations were happily accepted as well.

Despite the listed time being 10 a.m. to start, people arrived early in hopes of participating in the rummage sale to benefit Lakeshore PAWS.

“We wanted to raise community awareness of the shelter and all the great things that they are doing,” Eggers said.

The Duneland Boys and Girls Club helped generate interest from almost 400 people throughout the event by hosting and helping support Lakeshore PAWS.
