What's recently happened?
West Side Leadership Academy has recently experienced significant achievements in both athletics and academics, exemplifying a well-rounded institution. The West Side football team has secured victories in its two most recent games, instilling confidence as it prepares for its upcoming match on October 13. This forthcoming game carries special significance as it marks an occasion to honor the seniors on the football and majorette teams for their unwavering dedication throughout the 2023-24 season.
While athletics remain a cornerstone of school spirit, West Side's academic endeavors shine brightly. Seniors embarked on journeys to Indiana University Northwest and Bishop Noll Institute to partake in college and scholarship fairs. Notably, some students garnered over $100,000 in scholarships and secured several college acceptances through these opportunities.
West Side also had the privilege of hosting college representatives, facilitating direct interaction between juniors, seniors, and admissions officers from esteemed institutions like Ivy Tech Community College, Lane College, and Valparaiso University. This engagement allowed students to inquire about various academic programs, enabling them to make informed decisions about their future.
Beyond academics and athletics, West Side places a significant emphasis on the arts. Recently, the school welcomed Deon Taylor, a West Side graduate and accomplished producer, to address the student body. Taylor's inspirational talk motivated students to explore unconventional paths and urged them to think outside the box. He emphasized the key to success often lies in pursuing innovative and previously uncharted opportunities.
