#1StudentNWI: What a Wonder-Fall Season at Michigan City High School

Howl-O-Ween at Ames
The MCHS Athletic Department sponsored the 2nd annual Howl-O-Ween at Ames Field Thursday, October 29.

Howl-O-Ween at Ames is a trick-or-treat event for kids to trick-or-treat and have fun with the high school athletes. All of the sports teams each has a table to pass out candy and set up different activities for the kids.

These activities included playing with footballs, soccer balls, and volleyballs. The softball team even had a pitching station, and the gymnastics team set up a balance beam and other mats for the kids.

The event was free to the public, but donations were encouraged and accepted for City's Champions Together Club to benefit the Special Olympics.

Despite the cold weather and misting rain, there was quite a turnout. Approximately 2500 trick-or-treaters came to Ames Field for candy and to take part in the sports-related activities.

Howl-O-Ween at Ames provided a safe and fun environment for kids to celebrate the holiday.

Coming up in November:
Sadie Hawkins Dance
Students are getting ready for the Sadie Hawkins dance. The dance, sponsored and organized by City’s Student Council, will be on November 14 and held in the school cafeteria.

Sadie is a girls choice dance, so girls are scrambling for creative ways to ask guys to the special dance. Some dance-proposals include cupcakes, giant chocolate chip cookies, locker decorations, and posters. Girls are also heading to the stores to find the perfect dress, and guys are pulling out their semi-formal shirts and ties.

This year’s dance is a masquerade. Students are encouraged to purchase a mask or make their own mask to wear at the dance. However, masks are not required to attend the dance.

Sadies is the first dance of the school year, and everyone is ready to dress up and get out to the dance floor for a fun night with friends!

French Club Heads to Chicago
The MCHS French Club takes two field trips each year to understand and experience the French culture. The first of these field trips will take place November 20, as the club heads to Chicago to go the Alliance Francaise.

At the Alliance Francaise, French students will make a French meal of jambon and crepes. Then, they will watch a French movie. The events at Alliance Francaise will allow the students to experience the French culture and enhance their French-speaking abilities.

Her favorite part about La Porte County is that everyone has so much support for each other and makes it a fun place to live. Erica’s future plans include graduating from high school with distinction, attending Indiana University Bloomington, and majoring in human resources. Best of luck in the future, Erica!
