Last week, a few of the amazing talented students of Wirt-Emerson went on a recruitment tour in pursuit of encouraging elementary and middle school students to audition for enrollment at Emerson during the fall 2016-2017 school year. The students showcased their talents and gave a sense of the overall atmosphere of school life at Emerson, telling the students of opportunities a school like Emerson can give to you.

The students explained how attendance at Emerson helped them to further their talents and grow as students. They showed videos of school atmosphere at Emerson, and talked about the balance between arts and acamdeics. The students who participated in the tour were more than ecstatic about spreading their school spirit all over the city.

Delawrence Nixon says, “The tours were an awesome experience and was something that I hope every Emersonian gets to experience one day. I performed as Terry Taylor, a class presidential candidate from Garfield Elementary. The kids embraced each and every performance and Banneker Principal Ms Sarah Givens was truly ecstatic about the performances at Banneker Leadership Achievement Center.”

The students of Wirt-Emerson can't wait to see what new talented faces will audition for enrollment into our 2016-2017 academic school year soon to come!

1studentnwi-wevpa-april-2016-2Senior Drama Majors prepare to leave their legacy
Each year drama majors at Wirt-Emerson in the Senior class leave their theatric legacy by directing their own one-act plays. These plays symbolize the departure from their high-school careers of theatre and brings them closer to theatre on a college level. It is the moment where everything they've learned in class for four years or more is brought out center stage under the lights, and there is nothing a drama major loves more than center stage.

This year, the senior majors have just started their preparation to leave there final footprints on the drama room stage, and they are pretty excited about it. They have spent their entire senior year searching for the perfect plays strong enough to scorch their names in Emerson prestigious theatre department forever, leaving more than just a legacy. Nataija Johnson of the senior class says, “My one-act is about a court case and the way it plays out is really really interesting. Directing the play was pretty challenging but Mr. Her has taught me a lot so I can handle anything.”

These plays are in great anticipation at Wirt-Emerson, and there is no doubt in the minds of every student lingering through the halls that they will be a sight to see!

1studentnwi-wevpa-april-2016-3Teacher of the Month: Señorita Bermudez
Señorita Bermudez is an outstanding, awesome high-school Spanish teacher with just enough sass and spice to add flavor to the halls of Wirt-Emerson. She teaches her students the importance of cultural differences between Spanish speaking countries. She breathes her Spanish fluency into their ears, so that they have the ability to comprehend the language. She makes learning more than a book and a pen, but she teaches her students in a way that will engage them and make them eager to learn.

Walking into her classroom is just like walking into Spain and sitting under a tree, watching and listening as Spanish fluent people walk pass and tends to their daily activities. She works very hard to make sure every student is heard, and has a listening ear for their struggles with Spanish or with anything else. “Being in Ms. Bermudez’s classroom was really a delight because she's an amazing teacher, and also an amazing person. Having a teacher who is also a good person is sometimes a rare occurrence,” says Maria Hardy.

Señorita Bermudez is truly a gift to the students of Wirt-Emerson bedazzling them with the ability to understand a new language. She is not only a great teacher, but she is an amazing person. Mariah Guise says, “Ms.Bermudez is truly the best Spanish teacher I've ever had.”
