#1StudentNWI: Pioneers Get in Gear for Fall

Student in the Spotlight: Jaqueline Frasco

There are few people with the drive, motivation, and leadership skills of Jaqueline Frasco.

It is hard to think of an activity in which she is not involved; from being President of National Honor Society, captain of the soccer team, captain of the dance team, and heavily involved in the Class of ‘18, she does it all while balancing the workload effectively and effortlessly.

Students address Frasco when they have bright new ideas to liven up the school and make class of 2018 something to be remembered for. If her achievements are not impressive enough, she also is enrolled in AP classes and continues to get good grades day in and day out.

She and seven other people, in fact, were involved in essentially creating the next retreat for students and ensuring it was a success, and it very much was. She even sends thank you notes to those who help her along the way and continues to stay unbelievably organized in whatever she does. Truly, she is an example of everything a Pioneer should be, and she definitely does not go unnoticed for all her great strides and achievements.

Teacher in the Spotlight: Connell Jones

1Student-Clark-Nov-2017-02Connell Jones may be a fairly new addition to Clark, but that did not stop him from becoming as big of a part of the family as anybody else.

Every day he comes in, he teaches with enthusiasm, humor, and eagerness, and this has definitely shown in the way his students react in his class. Once a week he wanders into the guidance office and makes copies of his algebra work using his own paper. Through his kind conversation, Jones brightens the lives of the people who also work so hard to keep this school running as excellently as it is.

He often credits another teacher, Ms. Mclanahan, for shaping his teacher education and allowing him the room to grow into someone who is able to teach anybody and everybody.

“When I first started, I thought I would just be able to teach every student the way I learned, and I quickly understood that was not the case,” Jones said.

Jones has tailored his teaching skills to fit the needs of every student, and the compassion he has for them is very evident.

Jones still does a fine job and deserves recognition for his accomplishments.

What's Happening: Senior Pictures

1Student-Clark-Nov-2017-03Senior pictures are always a wonderful time for anybody in grade 12.

Regular school pictures happened in September, but these are specifically for those who will no longer be at Clark next year and will be doing bigger and better things.

Seniors lined up in the auditorium in order to get their pictures taken during first and second hour on Friday, November 17. While pictures get mailed to houses, depending on how many bought, many students also consider the possibility of hiring a professional photographer to do a photoshoot commending their growth as a senior and their big step into what many call the real world.

This is just one of many events held in honor of seniors; many are, in fact, planned by seniors. This included a retreat, field day, prom, the ordering of cap and gowns, making decorations for pep rallies, and much more. The Class of 2018 has certainly been busy creating a year that will be unforgettable.

What's Coming Up: Boys' Basketball Season

1Student-Clark-Nov-2017-04Although this picture includes last year’s boys’ basketball team, many returning faces are going to hit the courts again as the season begins.

The boys’ first game was a scrimmage against New Prairie High School. The team also welcomed a new coach, Mr. Hill, for their 18-19 season. Hill has been in the building for 12 years but just started as the boys varsity coach, so everyone is excited and eager to see how this year will turn out for them.

Hill has nothing but good things to say about the team, and they made it onto the local websites a few times over these past couple of weeks. Many cite senior Jeremy Shannon as the one to watch; with his combined speed and skill, everybody definitely has their eyes set on him. The new freshman class also seems to be a worthy bunch, as Jeremy lifts them up and encourages them. Come out to support the local Pioneers next Friday.
