Thanksgiving is Never Over

1Student-Hammond-Dec-2017-02Every year there has been a Thanksgiving dinner for the Hammond community at Hammond High school with the help of staff and volunteers. This year the school was unfortunately unable to host the event, but that didn't stop them from acting on the spirit of giving.

Hammond High instead held a school-wide food collection for the community. Students brought in cake mix, stuffing, cans of vegetables, and boxes of macaroni & cheese to donate. Student council and the National Honor Society worked together with administration to prepare baskets and give them to families in need.

1Student-Hammond-Dec-2017-05Another thing that has been going on over at Hammond High is the Girls Basketball team receiving a donation for playing a game against the Hammond Firefighters Local 556. The team made a deal with the firefighters that if they won they would get $200 and if they lost they would get half. After hard work, sweat, and fun the game was determined to be a tie between the teams. The firefighters decided to be generous and give the girls a donation of $200 and wish them a good luck to their season. It was a challenge that was beneficial for the girls and well enjoyed by all.

Hammond High has really been getting into the giving spirit and making sure everyone in the community feels cared for. The community of Hammond High has also grown together during their recent vote to pass the referendums. This move will improve the Hammond community and help build a new Hammond High building that will be a combination of Hammond High School and Eggers Middle School. The community has many improvements to look forward to in the coming years.

Hammond High to the Rescue

1Student-Hammond-Dec-2017-03Different programs at Hammond High are planning to ensure local children are able to celebrate the holidays this year. The blueprint class has chosen to bring in a variety of gifts for all ages of children in order to help those who are unable to receive gifts. The toys and gifts will be donated to the Carmelite Home, which was chosen by Mr.Foor and members of the Blueprint class.

The JAG program also is participating in a toy drive for kids in need. They, along with the tennis team, will be collaborating with the Blueprint program to gather gifts.

The National Honor Society will also come together with a food drive for families that need some assistance during the holiday season. Hammond High truly has many wonderful groups of students working to aid the community and share the holiday spirit.

Motherly Intentions Never Fade, Only Grow

When you think of someone who’s always there for you and true to their students who do you think of? Many students at Hammond High have one teacher in mind when they think of this: Mrs. Moran. Many students agree that she’s like a mom and motivates her students to do better and work harder. She always is understanding and makes an effort to aid everyone in learning the curriculum she is teaching.

Moran is also the type of teacher that will go above and beyond for people that ask her for help. She is able to maintain her own grades while attending schooling, planning the 2017-2018 Natural Helpers Retreat, being the AP coordinator, and developing lessons for all her classes. She keeps a smile on her face and looks forward to the laughs with her Natural Helpers leaders.

She is a loved teacher, co-worker, student, mentor, and wife who is a great person to hold conversation with. She believes in listening to her students opinions and makes an effort to relate to their situation. Many students view her as someone who can accomplish anything during their lifetime and view her has a second mother for their time at Hammond High.
