Staff spotlight:

At CPHS, science education takes center stage thanks to the dedication and passion of one remarkable educator: Timothy Klamo. Serving as both a chemistry and astronomy teacher, as well as the driving force behind the school's Science Olympiad team, Klamo is a beloved figure who has left an indelible mark on generations of students.

With a contagious enthusiasm for all things science, Klamo brings his subject matter to life, captivating students with hands-on experiments, engaging lectures, and a genuine love for discovery. His classrooms are vibrant spaces where curiosity thrives, and students are encouraged to ask questions, explore new ideas, and push the boundaries of their understanding.

“I have always been interested in space, and I loved when we would watch videos in astronomy class so we could really visualize what we were learning,” Senior Hayden Kay said.

In the chemistry lab, Klamo's dynamic teaching style makes complex concepts accessible and relatable, as students dive into the fascinating world of atoms, molecules, and chemical reactions. Through interactive demonstrations and real-world applications, he sparks a sense of wonder and curiosity, inspiring future scientists and engineers to pursue their passions.

Perhaps Klamo's most enduring legacy, however, lies in his role as the coach of CPHS's Science Olympiad team. Under his guidance, the team has achieved remarkable success, consistently ranking among the top contenders at regional and state competitions. Klamo's leadership, mentorship, and unwavering support have empowered students to excel in a wide range of scientific disciplines, fostering a spirit of teamwork, camaraderie, and academic excellence.

Beyond his accomplishments as an educator and coach, Klamo is known for his kindness, empathy, and genuine care for his students. He takes the time to get to know each individual, offering guidance, encouragement, and support as they navigate the challenges of high school and beyond. For many students, Klamo is not just a teacher but a mentor, role model, and source of inspiration.

As CPHS continues to nurture the next generation of scientists, thinkers, and innovators, Klamo stands as a shining example of the transformative power of education. His dedication to his craft, his passion for science, and his commitment to his students have left an indelible impression on the school community, shaping the lives of countless individuals and inspiring a lifelong love of learning. In the halls of CPHS, Klamo's legacy will endure for generations to come.

Student spotlight:

At CPHS, some students transcend the boundaries of conventional interests, embracing a diverse range of pursuits with passion and dedication. Junior Nic Collier exemplifies this spirit of versatility, excelling not only in the realm of science but also in the study of language and culture as a member of the Latin Club. With his enthusiasm for learning and commitment to excellence, Collier embodies the qualities of a true Renaissance student.

As a member of the Science Olympiad team, Collier demonstrates his prowess in the realm of scientific inquiry, tackling complex challenges and showcasing his knowledge across various disciplines. With a keen intellect and a thirst for discovery, Collier thrives in the competitive atmosphere of Science Olympiad competitions, where he collaborates with teammates to solve problems and test the limits of his scientific understanding.

“I wanted to join the Science Olympiad originally in seventh grade because my best friend had done it and convinced me to join. However, it drew me in in its own right, and I have been doing it ever since. Being able to explore different aspects of science and compete against other schools in Indiana is rewarding and has helped me discover my path in life,” Collier said.

Beyond the realm of science, Collier's interests extend to the study of language and culture as a member of the Latin Club. Imbued with a deep appreciation for the classical world, Collier explores the intricacies of Latin grammar, literature, and history, immersing himself in the rich tapestry of ancient civilization. Through his involvement in the Latin Club, Collier gains insight into the enduring legacy of Latin language and culture, forging connections between the past and the present.

“I grew up knowing that I would eventually take Latin and join the club because my dad was the AP Latin teacher. My interests in mythology and ancient history also pushed me to join. The best part of the club is being able to travel all over the country with my closest friends and being able to learn about Ancient Rome in a really fun and engaging way,” Collier said.

As Collier continues to pursue his academic and extracurricular interests at CPHS he serves as a shining example of what it means to be a Renaissance student—someone who embraces learning in all its forms, seeks out new experiences, and embraces the pursuit of knowledge with zeal and enthusiasm. With his unwavering commitment to excellence and his boundless curiosity, Collier is sure to leave a lasting impact on his school community and beyond.
