Staff spotlight:

In the vibrant halls of Crown Point High School, there exists a beacon of inspiration in the form of Angela Keaveney, a dedicated Spanish teacher whose commitment to education extends far beyond the classroom. In addition to molding young minds through the intricacies of language, Keaveney plays a pivotal role in fostering a culture of service and leadership as a facilitator for the school's Key Club.

“I started taking Spanish as a seventh grader in a suburb of Cleveland, Ohio. I had just awesome teachers, and I loved the language. In high school, I even volunteered during the Pan American Games when they were in Indy. I started college looking to do something in international business but kept going back to my love for education. I am actually certified to teach math as well, but opportunities always seemed to lead me to Spanish positions,” Keaveney said.

Beyond her role as a language educator, Keaveney assumes the responsibility of helping run the Key Club, a student-led organization dedicated to community service. The club finds in Keaveney a mentor and guide who amplifies the impact of its altruistic endeavors. Under her leadership, the Key Club has evolved into a force for positive change within the school and the broader community.

“I kind of fell into Key Club. My oldest son, Connor, was the Key Club president when he was here at Crown Point High School. I had never heard of the club before coming here, but I was always someone who loved to do service work. I volunteered in nursing homes, juvenile detention centers, child respite homes, etc. When the advisor left, I felt I could step into the role. Since then, the club has almost quadrupled in size, and we have taken over the St. Baldrick's event for the city. We have super fun community Halloween and Christmas parties, too,” Keaveney said.

As the facilitator of the Key Club, Keaveney is not just involved in organizing events; she is instrumental in nurturing leadership qualities among the students. Through mentorship, she encourages Key Club members to take ownership of their initiatives, fostering a sense of responsibility and empowerment. Under her guidance, students learn not only the importance of serving others but also how to become effective leaders in their own right.

Keaveney is more than a Spanish teacher; she is an educator who embodies the principles of service, leadership, and cultural appreciation. Through her role as the facilitator of the Key Club, Keaveney leaves an indelible mark on the hearts and minds of Crown Point High School students. Her dedication to education goes beyond the language she imparts; it extends to instilling values that inspire students to become compassionate, responsible, and service-oriented leaders of tomorrow.

“I hope that Key Club continues to grow and work more within the community. I hope that we can connect members' service passions - animals, homeless outreach, elderly care, environmental concerns. I also hope that the club can work to support and connect with other groups at the high school,” Keaveney said.

Student spotlight:

Senior year is a time for students to embrace their passions and contribute to the spirit of their school community. At Crown Point High School, one remarkable senior, Emilee Lucht, has managed to strike a unique balance as the head wrestling team manager and an integral member of the yearbook staff. Her commitment and diverse involvement exemplify the spirit of dedication and service that enriches the school experience for everyone involved.

As the head manager, she plays a pivotal role in ensuring the team runs smoothly. From organizing equipment to providing unwavering support during matches, Lucht's dedication extends beyond the mat. Her positive attitude and tireless efforts have earned her the respect and admiration of both coaches and wrestlers alike.

“I wanted to become a wrestling manager because I had a friend that was one. One of my best memories from wrestling is our duals against Mount Carmel High School. The energy of the match was so intense. Everyone was sitting on the edge of their seats watching. Being able to be on the floor up against the mat for the last two years has been incredible,” Lucht said.

Lucht doesn't limit her contributions to the wrestling team; she also brings her creative talents to the yearbook staff. As a member of the yearbook team, she captures the essence of the school year, freezing moments in time that will be cherished for years to come. Her keen eye for detail and commitment to documenting the diverse aspects of high school life make her an invaluable asset to the yearbook staff.

“The highlight of my yearbook career is probably being able to photograph the Indiana High School Athletic Association 6A Football State Finals at the Lucas Oil Stadium. It was such an incredible moment, and it’s one thing I’ll be able to cherish forever,” Lucht said.

Lucht is a shining example of how dedication, passion, and a willingness to break stereotypes can redefine the high school experience. As the head wrestling team manager and a vital member of the yearbook staff, she exemplifies the spirit of commitment and versatility. Lucht's story is not just about managing tasks; it's about managing to inspire those around her with her unwavering enthusiasm, proving that everyone has the power to make a meaningful impact in their school community.
