GHS Drama Department Cuts Loose
GHS performed Footloose for their third musical in a row on April 22-24. The cast and crew worked hard for over two months to make Footloose as best as they could. The show sold 893 tickets and raised over $7,000. The show’s success was due to the amazing cast, crew, and hardworking directors. The directors put much thought into the show like props, costumes, makeup, sets, and choreography. Everyone’s hard work and dedication paid off in the end to create a show that was enjoyable for friends and family.

“I can honestly say that participating in this musical was one of the greatest experiences and proudest moments of my life. I forgot how exhilarating it was to be up on that stage, and playing the role of Rusty gave me that amazing chance to share the spotlight with some truly amazing people. Not everyone is lucky enough to have people like this in their lives. Every single person in this drama department is someone I see as family, and each one has had a huge impact on my life and the person that I am today. It was really hard to let this show go and even harder to realize that as we let our senior class go, my class is next. I can’t wait to see what the next drama season has to offer,” said junior Alyssa Skertich.

It’s that time of year again and I’m not talking about spring; I’m talking about prom. Buying dresses, promposals, and setting up hair appointments are all part of the exhilarating prom season. The junior class council picked Great Gatsby for this year's prom theme. The song is A Little Party Never Killed Nobody by Fergie and the crowning song is Young and Beautiful by Lana Del Ray.

“I am excited to experience my first prom with some of my best friends and make a whole weekend out of it,” said junior Heather Steele.

Since the school year is starting to come to an end, it’s time to acknowledge more seniors. Senior Daniel Walker has made a name for himself, in a good way. Walker has taken part in many clubs and sports throughout his high school experience. He is the president of DECA and the class treasurer for the senior class council. He was in wrestling from freshman to junior year and took part in drama for all four years of high school. He has been in choral (the top choir at GHS) for three years and he is also a member of FCCLA and Best Buddies. Walker will be attending IUPUI in the fall and will be going for a double major in computer science and business marketing.

“Don’t take life too seriously, nobody gets out alive anyways,” said Walker.

Maggie Rivera graduated Valpo University with a double major in art and secondary education. She started teaching at Griffith in 2014. She teaches beginning and advanced drawing, beginning painting, intro to 2D art, visual composition, and 7th-grade art.

“I enjoy art and I like to help people, so being an art teacher is just a natural combination,” Rivera stated.

On top of teaching all of those classes, she also helps out with the drama department, international club, and sponsors the art club.
