#1StudentNWI: Andrean Faculty and Students Plan for a Great School Year

New Administration Leads Andrean into a New School Year

The 2015-2016 school year officially began August 19. The administration for this school year consists of Mr. Piwowarski, or Mr. P, as head principal, and Mrs. Lytton and Mr. Henwood as assistant principals.

Each member of the administration has high hopes for this school year. Mr. P is looking forward to the day he can walk into every classroom and everyone is doing something fun and intellectually stimulating. He looks for engaged students and involved teachers, who are learning valuable life skills.

“I want them to say, ‘Because of Andrean, my life is better than it would have been before.’” This can occur through the teamwork of students and faculty, led by the administrative team.

Mr. Henwood and Mrs. Lytton want to share the positivity at Andrean, but in different ways. Mr. Henwood aims to share learning, opportunities, and self-growth among everyone at Andrean. Meanwhile, Mrs. Lytton wants to send the message to others outside of the school.

“There are great things happening in these walls,” she said. “I want that message to reach beyond Andrean.” They are both working to create a support system at Andrean full of talented, eager individuals who will do great things now and in the future.

In short, these three administrators love Andrean, and aim to take it even higher.

“Embrace the future,” said Mr. P.

Andrean Student Council Plans

After speeches and elections on Friday, September 4, members of Andrean’s student council and executive board were announced on Tuesday, September 8. All of the students elected for these positions met for the first time as a collective group on Wednesday, September 9, to begin planning for the school year.

Meetings will now take place Tuesday mornings. Students will bring new ideas to the table and work with faculty in order to get more things done that are wanted by students.

The main event that student council is preparing for is Homecoming. The Homecoming Parade is on September 30, and will leave from Hidden Lake at 6:00 p.m. All of Andrean’s sport teams are expected to participate in the parade, with the exception of boys’ soccer, who have a game that day. Club moderators are also encouraged to make floats for the parade. The school band will play. Perhaps most importantly to students, each class will have a float. The best one will receive points for Armageddon, a class versus class competition that culminates in an end-of-the-year field day of sorts.

The powder puff game will be held October 1. Then, the official homecoming game is on October 2, and the dance is the next day. Rumors of homecoming proposals are already whistling through the halls, and the horror of dress shopping begins.

Teacher / Faculty Shout-Out

Mrs. Hether Lytton taught English and Speech last school year at Andrean, and this year she returns as an assistant principal. Her responsibilities this year now includes the curricular needs of every subject matter, instead of just focusing specifically on English.

Her position change at Andrean means that she no longer has the same day-to-day interaction with students.

"I always miss teaching, but I feel that in this role I have more impact on more students than I would have had just in class." Mrs. Lytton wants to be an advocate for the education of all students.

Despite the difficulty of not being a teacher anymore, Mrs. Lytton always knew that, at some point, she wanted to go into administration. That is why she received a Master's degree in school leadership. As an assistant principal, Mrs. Lytton will continue to read various genres and remain open spiritually and academically.

Mrs. Lytton can often be seen walking around the halls, peeking her head into classrooms. She is always a welcome light to an otherwise monotonous school day. Mrs. Lytton’s door is always open, and you can find her with open ears and a bright smile.

Student Shout-Out

Tessa Wojkovich is an Andrean star. She practically grew up in these halls, having been around the school from three years old. She was even baptized in the building. Her mother is the admissions director, and her siblings walked the Andrean halls before her. This sense of history practically makes Andrean her second home.

It was inevitable that Tessa would be elected president. As a freshman, she was a class officer. Sophomore year, she served on the student executive board as secretary. This year, as a junior, was the first year she could be elected president, and the spot was hers.

It isn’t difficult to find out why so many people voted Tessa. She is consistently kind and encouraging to every person she comes across. You won’t find a more supportive friend.

“I feel extremely honored that they’ve given me this position,” Tessa said about her presidency. “I think that I have been given a certain set of skills that I am able to naturally lead other people, and I want to use those to make Andrean better, as much as possible. An A+ school.”

There is no doubt that she will do her best to make that happen, and if anyone can, Tessa can.
