Beachside with a Ranger

Stop by and learn about our park’s preservation story. We’ll highlight some of the challenges the region faced in the past as well as the largest threats that confront us today.

Meet at the West Beach Contact Station, near the picnic benches, on the northern corner of the parking lot, which can be seen on the left as you enter into the beach walkway. West Beach is located at 376 North County Line Road in Portage.

NATURE RETREAT DAY

Retreat into nature for the day! Join a small group of others who are stepping into a day of peaceful creativity and mindfulness. Activities involve outdoor yoga, eco-dye artwork and a forest bathing walk. The day will be rich and restful for all participants. A boxed lunch will be provided. Comfortable shoes and a refillable water bottle are recommended. Location: Celebration Rose Pavilion and Hike.

LIT’L KERNEL PUFF RACE

The Most Fun Your Kid Will Have All Year!
Kids can join the Popcorn Festival fun with this unique kid-friendly race in Downtown Valparaiso. Kids run 100 - 300 yard events; distance varies by age group. Everyone receives a t-shirt and participation ribbon. SPACE IS LIMITED so be sure to register early!

BOLT FOR THE HEART FAMILY 5K RUN/WALK

The LCSO is partnering with Bolt for the Heart, a Carmel based non-profit organization, Franciscan Health and the Play for Jake Foundation, for a Family 5K Run/Walk. The event will be Sunday, September 8th, at 9AM, in Washington Park. The event will assist by raising awareness of heart disease and equip EVERY police vehicle in La Porte County with an Automated External Defibrillator (AED).

FRIENDS OF THE LIBRARY BOOK SALE

The Friends of the Library are holding a First Friday book sale in the library outdoor plaza. In the event of bad weather, the sale will be inside the library. Donations of materials are welcome! Please call 219-873-3049 to arrange book pickup.

RACE TO THE RESCUE

Join the City of Hammond and Hammond Port Authority as we honor our first responders at the Fourth Annual Race to the Rescue on September 8, 2019. Participants can choose from a 9K run, 5K run/walk, and cycling road race. Spend the morning at The Pavilion at Wolf Lake in support of those who protect us.

RIDE THE REGION 2019

On Saturday, September 7th, motorcycle riders from all over the Region will ride 80 miles throughout the streets of Northwest Indiana to raise awareness and funds for individuals facing hunger. The Ride will begin and end at the Food Bank of Northwest Indiana, 6490 Broadway, Merrillville, with kickstands up at 10am, followed by an end rally celebration.
