With a long weekend, comes more fun! Celebrate Memorial Day weekend with a day at the ballgame, watching the Gary Southshore RailCats open a new season. Sample the gourmet food offered at Michigan City’s first Food Truck festival and finish the Saturday night with a laugh, listening to standup comedian Ralphie May take down the Blue Chip Casino stage. Have fun, but remember what this extra weekend day means. Head to Chesterton high School’s new Memorial monument dedication ceremony or watch the Memorial Day parade take over Portage and thank those who have fought for our country. Weekend Events at Gary Southshore RailCats Stadium Spend the entire weekend with the Gary Southshore RailCats. Friday night kicks off with an Opening Night game followed by a Fireworks Show. Saturday is the 1st ever Crawfish Festival and Sunday is the McDonald’s Family Day! And, for the extended weekend, Monday’s game includes an All You Can Eat wristband!
Duneland School Corporation Veterans Memorial Dedication The Duneland School Corporation Veterans Memorial Committee invites the community and Gold Star parents to the unveiling of a new Duneland Schools Veterans Memorial. They will be presenting a large granite monument honoring those who served in the military. The June 2, 2016 death of 2014 CHS graduate and West Point Cadet Mitchell Alexander Winey provided the catalyst that set this project in motion.
Inaugural Michigan City Food Truck Festival Michigan City will host its inaugural food truck festival featuring up 20 gourmet food trucks, delicious drinks, live music and games. The event is free with a ticket and there will be a $10 VIP admission for access to dedicated tenting and seating.
Kent's Run 5K Kent’s Run was established to raise money for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and to honor the life of Kent Ribordy, a Boone Grove High School student/athlete who passed away in June 2007 from Leukemia. In nine years, Kent’s Run has raised $350,000 for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society! Kent’s Run is just another example of the exceptional things that can happen when communities rally together! Moraine Ridge Wildlife Center Hosts Annual Bat Appreciation Day Are you batty about bats? Moraine Ridge Wildlife Rehabilitation Center will host its 2nd annual Bat Appreciation Day May 27 from noon to 3 p.m. Bat Appreciation Day will introduce community members to the benefits of bat populations and will learn about the bat species that call Northwest Indiana home and different ways to help protect local bat populations. This kid-friendly event will feature several activities and crafts to teach children about local bat species.
Officers Down 5k The Officers Down 5K will host the OD5K - Lake County, IN! By participating, you are helping honor America's fallen law enforcement heroes and celebrating those who put their lives on the line daily in our communities. Community Day will include food, live music, K9 demo, family activities and much more! Race details here.
La Porte County Family YMCA Spring 2017 3 on 3 Basketball Tournament Come test your skills and play in the La Porte County, La Porte branch 3 on 3 Basketball Tourney. Age divisions include 4th grade and under, 5th/6th grades, 7th/8th grades, 9th to 12th grades, and adult. There will be men’s and women’s divisions for the double elimination tournament. Comic Ralphie May Headlines at Blue Chip Casino Larger-than-life standup comic Ralphie May takes the stage at Blue Chip Casino, Hotel & Spa, Michigan City. May was chosen to participate in the first season of Last Comic Standing; he finished in second place. After that, he appeared in comedy shows, including The Wayne Brady Show, and The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, and in 2005, he released his comedy album, Just Correct. Click here for tickets.
Gabriel's Horn Trail Run Xtreme Gabriel's Horn will be hosting their Trial Run Xtreme at the Imagination Glen BMX this Memorial Day! This event is a fundraiser to support Gabriel's Horn. Gabriel's Horn Shelter serves single women and mothers with children of Porter County. The mission of Gabriel's Horn is to provide a protected refuge for homeless women and their children by establishing and maintaining a facility, which will provide, for them, a safe temporary shelter and outreach services. Portage Memorial Day Parade The Portage American Legion Post 260 would like to extend an invitation to you and your organization to join them in the Annual Memorial Day Parade and Memorial Day Services on Monday, May 29th at Noon. The parade will begin at the Portage Mall, heading West on Central Ave. to Calvary Cemetery for a short service.
