May 25th - WWI War Garden Hands-On History
Porter County Museum - Valparaiso, IN
Dig in with PoCo Muse staff and volunteers to plant a WWI-era garden on the museum's front lawn. Find out how Porter County residents used community gardens to support war efforts during the First World War, and study vegetable gardening techniques used over a century ago.
Learn everything you need to plant your own historic variety vegetable at home. No gardening experience or tools required! Hands-On History Saturday is a free program series of the PoCo Muse and is open to the public without the need for an RSVP.

Indiana Dunes State Park - Chesterton, IN
Meet local experts and scientists who are conducting research in the national park. Examine the knowledge gained by researchers during a presentation on their work and a short hike afterward.

April 27 - Vernal pools at Cowles Bog - Join Gia Wagner, biologist at Indiana Dunes National Park, for a short presentation about vernal pools and current research happening in Cowles Bog. After the presentation there will be a carpool out to the sight for a short hike. Dress for the weather.

Bailly Homestead and Chellberg Farm - Chesterton, Indiana
Explore the grounds of both historic homes. Learn about early settlers and farmers who came to this region in the 1800s.
The Chellberg/Bailly parking lot is on Mineral Springs Road between U.S. 20 and Highway 12 in Porter, Indiana.

May 24th - Mount Baldy Summit Sunset Hike

Meet at the Mount Baldy parking lot for a ranger-led hike to the top of the beautiful and famous Mount Baldy, Indiana. The sunset over Lake Michigan and the surrounding area is spectacular. No reservation required.
Please note that the Mount Baldy parking lot and beach are open everyday from 6:00 am to 11:00 pm. The dune itself, however, is still closed for general public use. We strongly ask the public to respect and follow posted closure signs and stay out of roped-off areas. The dune is still closed for reasons of public safety and restoration efforts.

May 26th - Paul H. Douglas (Miller Woods) Trail Hike
Paul H. Douglas Center for Environmental Education - Miller, IN
Join a ranger for a hike through Indiana Dunes National Park's exceptional Miller Woods, starting from the Paul H. Douglas Center. The hike is spectacular in its varied habitats including globally rare black oak savanna, interdunal ponds, wetlands, and towering sand dunes which offer incredible views of Lake Michigan and Chicago. Hike lengths can vary from a half-mile to just over three miles. Be sure to wear sturdy shoes and bring water, and insect repellent during the warmer seasons.
