Sparta Dome Hosts Inaugural Tournament this Weekend

Sparta Fast Pitch Classic to bring in 18 teams

CP-Sports-Complex_2Eighteen fast pitch softball teams from Indiana, Illinois and Michigan will come together Feb. 27 through March 1 for the inaugural tournament at the Sparta Dome in Crown Point.

The tournament will be comprised of 14U, 16U and 18U teams, and includes participation by local teams, explained Sam Longoria, one of the tournament planners. Games will be played from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 27; 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 28; and from 8 a.m. to approximately 5 p.m. on Sunday, March 1.

The Sparta Dome is located within the Crown Point Sportsplex, and offers more than 100,000 square feet of space without barriers. The dome provides players from all sports a location to play their game 365 days a year. Amenities include a concesion area, bathrooms, a mezzanine section that seats up to 300 spectators, and a large meeting room that can be divided into two.

Tae’Ni Chang-Stroman, one of the owners of the Sparta Dome, hopes the dome will become a consistent venue for numerous sporting events and league play for baseball, softball, full-field soccer, rugby, lacrosse and more.

Change-Stroman explained that though the space is built for sports, the Sparta Dome can host a variety of events.

“The type of event hosted here is really up to the imagination of the event planner,” stated Chang-Stroman. “Our eyes are open to anything.”
