Indiana State Police Announce New Twitter Initiative

Indiana-State-Police-logoIndiana State Police announced today that 13 State Police Districts across Indiana will now have a unique Twitter account to complement the existing statewide Twitter handle of @IndStatePolice. The local state police Twitter accounts will be used primarily by the state police public information officer locally assigned at each state police post. With the exception of the Toll Road District, there is a state police PIO assigned to the other 13 state police posts. The public and local media are encouraged to follow as many of the local state police Twitter accounts as desired for information concerning crashes, road closings, current road conditions and other information of localized interest.

The Indiana State Police started using Twitter in July 2010 to help share information with the public, but the information was issued statewide. The Indiana State Police will continue utilizing the statewide Twitter account @IndStatePolice for news releases of statewide interest, inclusive of Amber and Silver Alerts, safety tips and for large events that occur in the greater central Indiana area.
