The Hammond Central Lady Wolves secured their first ever sectional title win in a formidable match-up and the emotions were electric following the buzzer! The Lady Wolves also secured a birthday win for sophomore forward Kenisha Grant’s birthday tonight!

“It’s testament these girls played hard. Her (Okeisha Howard) coaching staff worked hard all summer, all year. Coach O and her staff has done a great job with these girls. We have some new faces, but it’s special. It’s special for our school. It’s special with the fact that it’s the first one in school history, and you know, we take this momentum into next year. A lot of our community members are here tonight. We had our administration from the district office, our building level here, and everyone supports the girls and we’re just proud of them. It’s amazing for our community and for our school and hopefully we take this momentum into next week at the regional!” -Chris Moore (Hammond Central Athletic Director)

“Well for one, what’s going through my mind the whole time is; we got this, we got this, we got this, but we were down by eight. It was 11-3 1st quarter Lake Central took one. I said, we got this, we got this. So me saying that, it comes out of my spirit to my girls, and they started to believe. They worked hard and I told them, anything great is not easy. We don’t want anything easy. We played three games. We didn’t have a vibe. We played Crown Point, that was tough, number one. We played Hammond Morton, that was tough, number two. We played Lake Central, that was tough, number three. So to go through them, different levels like that is big. It shows what my work was made of, and it’s big. Hammond Central having one sectional championship in girls basketball, we set a lot of history out here today, and I’m very proud of the girls.” -Okeisha “Coach O” Howard (Hammond Central head women’s basketball coach)

“The game plan was just to go in and play defense. Defense wins championships and we always stuck to our principles. To be honest, as far as our morality, we look at it as we have to play together, and that’s how we win more championships. So from here to this point on, that’s us playing together, using our principles, using the fundamentals. With everything, it takes a lot.” -Adrian McGee (Hammond Central)
