A pair of big games offensively from Indiana University Northwest's Jessica Carrothers (Highland, Ind.) and sound defensive play from Governors State University's Da'Naria Washington (Indianapolis, Ind.) have earned the pair the first Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week honors for the 2024-25 season, the league office announced on Wednesday.
Carrothers rang up a pair of 30-plus point performances on 70.7 percent shooting from the field, while also averaging 5.0 assists per game to land CCAC Offensive Player of the Week accord. The junior guard hit for 33 points on 14-of-20 shooting with four rebounds, six assists and three steals in an 83-63 victory over Rochester Christian University (Mich.) to open the week last Wednesday.
That was followed by Carrothers making 15 of her 21 shots for 34 points to go along with five rebounds, four assists and another three steals in an 82-65 decision over Lawrence Technological University (Mich.) on Saturday.
With the two victories, Indiana Northwest is a perfect 4-0 to start the season.
Washington claimed the first-ever CCAC defensive award after keying Governors State holding Aquinas College (Mich.) to just 58 points on 34.6 percent shooting in a 77-58 road win on Saturday. The senior guard authored a team-high five steals in the effort, while also contributing four assists and a pair of rebounds.
Governors State has won each of its first two games to begin the season.
