UNITED WAY HELPS DISBURSE FEDERAL FUNDS TO LOCAL JASPER COUNTY PROGRAMS

The United Way of Northwest Indiana (UWNWI) will administer $22,780 from the Federal Emergency Food and Shelter Program (EFSP) to support local food programs in Jasper County 

The funds will not be available to individuals. 

The award was made by the EFSP National Board, which is chaired by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency. The EFSP National Board consists of representatives from the American Red Cross, Catholic Charities USA, National Council of Churches of Christ in the USA, The Salvation Army, United Jewish Communities and United Way of America. 

A local board will determine which nonprofit agencies received awards, which can have a significant impact on their operations. 

A local board will determine how the awarded funds will be distributed. Organizations meeting the following requirements are encouraged to apply. 

  • Serve in Jasper County 
  • Be a private nonprofit with a voluntary board or unit of government. 
  • Demonstrate the capacity to deliver emergency food within the month of December or ability to utilize the funds on qualified past purchases of food from November 1, 2021 to December 31, 2024 
  • Be eligible to receive federal funds and have a Unique Entity Identifier (UEI) number. 
  • Be in compliance EFSP (Emergency Food and Shelter Program) to be eligible to receive funds
  • Have an accounting system and does not discriminate in their service to the community. 

The application deadline is noon on Monday, November 24. Qualified applicants can request an application by contacting United Way Northwest Indiana at rebecca@unitedwaynwi.org.
