The Belvedere Senior Housing community came together for a traditional Halloween celebration. Delicious candy and fancy costumes filled the facility parking lot for their annual trunk-or-treat event.
Belvedere Senior Housing is an affordable assisted lifestyle for people in the Merrillville area. The facility opened in 2017 and is exclusively designed to serve older adults in an active community.
Sales and Marketing Director Andrea Puente is a big fan of this event. She loves how much the event has grown in recent years as well.
“The trunk-or-treat is one of the most fun activities we do here every year,” Puente said. “We love seeing our events get bigger, especially when it brings families together, which is what we’re all about.”
Kids came in with a wide range of creative costumes including themes of Spongebob SquarePants, Winnie The Pooh, Super Mario, and Marvel superheroes. The residents participated in both handing out candy and getting in line to fill their own bags. The event provided free food and drinks for everyone in attendance.
Belvedere’s staff have been preparing for this event for five weeks in advance. Their team received donations from different businesses and community members.
“We’re grateful for the community support that we’ve received this year,” Puente said. “It allows us to put on nice events like this one. We have the Merrillville Police Department, CoAction, and Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield participating in the trunk or treat. We have such an incredible community and our residents get a kick out of the trunk-or-treat.
Attendees not only could receive candy but also get a better understanding of the vendors at the trunk-or-treat event. The party consisted of delicious food, hot chocolate, tasty treats, a bounce house, a DJ, and more than a dozen trunks distributing candy.
This event is not just a way to get into the spirit of Halloween, but also a way to bring something special to the residents. Being surrounded by friends and family is what makes the seniors at Belvedere the happiest.
“Our residents are really proud of their home,” Puente said. “Anytime that they’re able to show off their home is amazing. They love seeing the children smile. Between bringing in so many families and people being able to network, it makes this event a win-win situation.”
While Belvedere Senior Housing planned for the event to be indoors in the event of weather complications, Puente was thrilled that their residents could spend time together outside on one of the last warm days of the year.
“The trunk-or-treats seem to be increasing in popularity,” Puente said. “When it comes to our event, we want to make sure we can provide a variety of food, drinks, and fun activities for the kids to appreciate. My favorite part about this event is seeing a lot of happy families and getting to meet our resident’s family members. We want everybody to have the best time here so they can mark their calendars to come back again next year.”
