When the 59ers girls soccer team takes the pitch at Saturday’s annual Jamboree, a new, but familiar, face will be leading the team from the sidelines as Meghan Mulroe begins her first season as head coach at Andrean.
Mulroe, a 2016 Andrean graduate, has been an assistant coach with the Niners program for the past five seasons under veteran coach Jeff Clapman. As a first-year head coach at her alma mater, Mulroe is excited to take the reins of the program.
“I’m super excited to be coaching at Andrean, it’s an incredible feeling coming from being a former player to becoming a head coach,” Mulroe said. “I’m extremely grateful to be able to continue and spread the Andrean history with this group of girls.”
The girl's soccer program has had a great run over the past six seasons with four sectional titles (including an active streak of three in a row), three regional championships, a state finals appearance in 2021, and a state championship in 2016. Keeping that postseason success alive is one of Mulroe’s goals during her tenure.
“We want to continue that standard of excellence this team has always had,” Mulroe said. “Have competitive matches, great performances during conference matchups, and deep tournament runs. We want to be successful in all we do on and off the field and strive to get better every day while motivating everyone to build their own legacy.”
During her playing career for the 59ers, Mulroe was a four-year varsity player and was named MaxPreps Player of the Month in 2016.
Andrean has a quick turnaround after the Jamboree on Saturday as the team hosts Bishop Noll on Monday in a JV/V double-header. Fans can get tickets to the Jamboree, Monday’s game and season passes at https://andreanathletics.com/Tickets.
