Hooked on Art Festival to Host International 3-D Chalk Artist

Frontline-Foundation-Hooked-on-Art-2013-1First 3D movies, then 3D television, and now…3D chalk art?

The streets of Downtown Chesterton will be alive with color on Saturday, September 28, as International Street Painter Jennifer Chaparro will be hitting the road (literally) for Frontline’s annual Hooked on Art – Live Street Art Festival. Her goal? To create an eye-popping 15x25 optical illusion using only chalk as medium.

Traveling across the US and internationally, Chaparro has won many awards for her original chalk art pieces.

I have never done the same piece twice,” said Chaparro. “I enjoy the interaction with the crowd and sharing this art form with all ages. It’s a completely different experience than painting alone in a studio.

Beyond three-dimensional street art, the Hooked on Art Festival will present a variety of national and regional artists- glass blowers, oil painters, graffiti artists, and more- to perform works in progress at Thomas Centennial Park from 9 am to 5 pm. Among the artwork will be unique shopping opportunities, an interactive Creative Kid’s Corner, and live performances throughout the day.

Frontline is thrilled to have Jennifer Chaparro and the numerous artists, vendors, and musicians participating with our free event to the public,” said Development Director Derek Frazier. “Hooked on Art will be a wonderful offering to our community as well as a great fundraiser for Frontline. All proceeds benefit substance abuse treatment scholarships for Frontline clients.

Frontline, a non-profit 501©3 with offices in Chesterton and Valparaiso, offers substance abuse treatment through recovery workshops, family counseling, peer-to-peer group sessions and individual treatment plans. Last year Frontline provided over $52,000 in client treatment scholarships.
