Sun King Brewing Company has been an Indiana institution since 2009. Beginning with an Indianapolis location, Sun King now has seven locations throughout Indiana and Florida. Operating on the beautiful Mishawaka Riverwalk, Sun King’s family-friendly tap room is open year-round.
“I’m from South Bend originally,” said Dave Colt, Sun King co-founder, co-CEO, and brewmaster. “We were approached by the developer for the Mishawaka location. Being back on my old stomping grounds felt like a great way to expand beyond Indianapolis and the surrounding counties.”
Being Indiana-based and locally supported is a key element to Sun King’s success. Partnering with Indiana Beverage out of Valparaiso has been a benefit to both companies as Sun King expands.
“One of the things that Sun King really tries to do is highlight and feature local companies wherever possible,” Colt said. “Indiana Beverage is just a great company, and they have the highest reputation. We’re proud to be partnered with them.”
“We've had a long great history,” Colt said. “We can't thank Indiana Beverage enough for all of the good work that they do on behalf of Sun King in their footprint.”
Supporting the Mishawaka location allows Sun King to partner with additional local groups. Working alongside the City of Mishawaka Parks and Recreation Department, Sun King’s Riverwalk location is a key feature of Ball Band Biergarten.
“We're so thrilled to be welcomed so heartily by the City of Mishawaka Parks and Recreation Department,” said Colt.
During the Biergarten, Sun King acted as the official vendor, providing patrons with high-quality drinks and food.
Currently operating as a taproom, the Sun King Mishawaka location will soon feature food year-round.
“We’re getting ready to change over. We've got a new food concept that's gonna be opening up soon,” Colt said.
Staying true to its local first mission, Sun King’s taproom will soon sell fare from Goshen-based Biebs and Ash.
“It's a Smashburger concept that we're so incredibly excited to bring to our Mishawaka taproom,” Colt said. “It’s local folks doing good.”
Sun King Brewing Company’s Mishawaka location is open Wednesday-Sunday at 235 Ironworks Drive.
