The NITCO Chesterton Fiber Optic Network (CFON) Meet and Greet was an educational event for IT companies and IT professionals. NITCO, a telecommunications company based in Hebron, offered faster internet service and incredible fiber optic options to their clients. On that Wednesday evening at AJ’s Pizzeria in Chesterton, many learned about the development of NITCO’s Fiber Optic Network in the town of Chesterton. The presentation began with an explanation of the town’s involvement, the design of the project, and where the network will be laid. Later, the audience learned details on pricing and services offered, as well as the role that IT plays. Chesterton’s internet service will not only be improved, but this improvement will also help the community as a whole.
Fiber optic communications is a crucial method in today’s age. Information is sent though an optical fiber by sending impulses of light which allow for internet and cellphone communications to occur. One may ask, 'Where does all of this occur then?' The Project Manager of NITCO, Don Schoenbeck, explained.
“All of the underground conduits and pipes are going to be put in first. Then, at a later date after they get the whole thing done, they are going to pull the fiber all the way through the whole job,” said Schoenbeck.
Schoenbeck does all of the permitting for many of the jobs and he is also responsible for allowing these projects to be out on the roads. After understanding all of the work that goes into a project, one can recognize how significant it is for our community to learn why this is a great opportunity. The Sales Account Executive at NITCO, Ahna Dunn, summarized the goal of the presentation.
“Today, our focus will be on the IT professionals in the area,” Dunn said. “We are looking to explain, in more depth, the services that the Chesterton Fiber Optic Network (CFON) is providing. We are also giving them some more background into the technicality of it, so they can share that information with their customers.”
The key to NITCO’s success is not only the great information they provide, but also their commitment to customer satisfaction. The Senior Vice President for Sales of Marketing from NITCO, Tom Carrol, gave an insight into why NITCO is the perfect company to work for and work with.
“Everybody in the company is so focused on wanting to make sure that the customer is happy. That is for us, job one,” Carrol described. “I think everything kind of revolves around that. What can we do to make the customer experience better?”
NITCO is creating a better customer experience by also boosting economic growth within communities, as Carrol clarified.
“It is truly a benefit to the citizens of each one of those towns and cities to have these kinds of municipal networks built up. I think it really does generate economic growth,” Carrol said. “You are going to see more jobs created and the prices come down. When a municipality decides to put fiber in the ground they are essentially competing with the existing carriers.”
With internet service companies competing and continually increasing their prices every year, NITCO is the answer to this concern.
