Safe Kids Day, a free event focused on celebrating kids, preventing injuries and saving lives, will return to the Dean and Barbara White Southlake YMCA from 9AM to noon on Saturday, April 23.
The annual event has not been held the last two years due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but it returns this year with the entertainment and educational opportunities that made it such a popular community event. Enjoy an interactive concert of music and movement with ROCKIN’ with Leonardo. Face painting, temporary tattoos, glitter tattoos, and balloon twisting will be provided by BeeGIGGLES. Kids will also have photo opportunities with mascots from the Gary SouthShore RailCats and Chick-Fil-A.
Safety demonstrations will include bicycle and helmet safety, child passenger safety, cyber safety, fire safety, first-aid, home safety, medication safety, pedestrian safety, pet safety and water safety. Representatives of Franciscan Physician Network Pediatric Medicine will be on hand to answer healthcare questions.
An entry gift will be handed out while supplies last and guests can sign up for raffle prizes. Signups will be available for the Franciscan Health Heart, Lung and AAA screening program, and free gifts will be available for those joining Franciscan Health Inspiring Women. Snacks will also be provided.
The Southlake YMCA is located at 100 W. Burrell Drive in Crown Point. Use the West entrance. This is a free event, but registration is required. Register online by going to fran.care/SafeKidsDay.
The Safe Kids Day event is a project of Safe Kids Northwest Indiana. This event is sponsored by Franciscan Health Crown Point, Southlake YMCA, the Crown Point Community Foundation, NIPSCO and Cleveland-Cliffs.
