On Wednesday night, the Hobart Brickies Boys Basketball team hosted the Whiting High School Oilers. The Brickies celebrated their seniors, #11 Quinten White, #23 Fabian Salazar-Bernal, and #30 Max Jancich, including cheerleaders Mary Daw, Alyssa Candiano, and Kelsey Black.
The Oilers won the tip off, but the Brickies stole the ball, #4 Miki Djankovich scoring the first point. The first point of the game for the Oilers was a three pointer made by #1 Tony Madrueno. The score at the end of the first quarter was 14-8, with Hobart in the lead.
The Brickies continued to build their lead in the second quarter, stealing the ball from the Oilers multiple times. #5 Diandre Marshall scored the first points of the half for with Oilers with a three pointer. The score at the half was 32-17.
The third quarter saw the Brickies continue to build upon their lead with #4 Miki Djankovich scoring the first points of the quarter from the free throw line. The score at the end of the third quarter was 44-23. The final score of the night was 69-30. Brickies Assistant Coach Brandon Grubl commented on the game.
“It was a good bounce back win. We haven’t really been playing our greatest basketball recently, but we put things together tonight,” Grubl said. “It was a good win for the seniors.”
The Brickies will next face off against Wheeler on Friday, January 26, while the Oilers are out for the season.
