The Kia Telluride might go down as one of the most successful SUV launches in automotive history. Thanks to the laundry list of features, smooth ride, and affordable price, the 2020 Telluride dominated by taking home the 2020 NACTOY Utility Vehicle of the Year, MotorTrend SUV of the Year, and Car and Driver 10Best.

These recognitions are often considered the “Triple Crown” of the auto industry, the most prestigious awards in the country.

“No other SUV has ever accomplished so much in just one year,” said Jose Martinez, Assistant Sales Manager at Thomas KIA of Highland. “This puts it up in the absolute top caliber of vehicles. Thanks to the value, features, warranty, and everything else it brings into play, it became Kia’s most awarded SUV ever.”

Claiming even one award is a challenging task, with every new vehicle being matched against each other with incredible scrutiny.

“These critics spend a lot of time going through everything about a car,” he said. “They compare basic things like how it drives to personal tastes like looks and interior design. They’ll spend months with a car, determining everything that might make it a winner. It’s rigorous testing.”

Plenty of new SUVs offered durability and extensive feature lists, but the Telluride matched every one of those qualities and beyond, and most importantly, at an affordable price point.

“The amount of value you get for the package is something don’t see anywhere else,” Martinez said. “You can look at other vehicles in the Telluride’s class and you’ll be paying thousands more. Not only that, the amount of features you get per trim model is phenomenal. Other manufacturers have you pay a lot more just to get those features.”

You Don't Have to be in Colorado to Love a Kia Telluride

Martinez also pointed to the Telluride’s looks as a big attraction. Where other SUVs are increasingly shrinking in profile, adding curves and a softer look, the Telluride cuts a sharp, striking silhouette.

“Most of the SUV and crossover market has gone to that same sort of safe look everybody else has,” he said. “The Telluride brought back that rugged, fierce, strong look that I think a lot of people expect out of an SUV. That distinct, boxy look is something that hasn’t really been done in today’s market.”

Consumers agreed with the critics, and since it launched in early 2019, Kia Motors America has sold nearly 60,000 Tellurides. In many places around the country, demand is outpacing supply. But not at Thomas KIA of Highland. The dealership has a special allocation to meet the demand. To learn more, or take a test drive, visit www.thomaskia.com.
